Kaleidoscope Straw Frame

This tutorial was written using JASC PSP version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of the program at an intermediate level.

I created this frame totally by mistake. I applied a different effect to another frame I was creating, and when I saw this, I knew I stumbled onto something unique. I hope you like it. ;o)

Tools needed for this tutorial are as follows.

JASC PSP. You can download a 30 day trial version here.

An image of choice.

Let's get started!

Step 1.

Open a new image 350x350, transparent.

Step 2.

Go to selections> select all. Now go to selections> modify contract by 35. Now go to selections> invert.

Step 3.

Set your foreground to pattern and select the cave rock.

Step 4.

Flood fill with this pattern.

Step 5.

Go to effects> texture> straw wall and apply using these settings. Make sure you set the color to a complimentary color from your particular image.

 

Step 6.

Go to effects> inner bevel and apply using these settings. Deselect.

Step 7.

Duplicate your frame by hitting "shift" then "D" on your keyboard. On your duplicated image, go to effects> kaleidoscope using these settings.

Step 8.

Still on your duplicated image, go to Edit> copy. Activate your original frame, edit> paste as new layer. Merge visible. (you can close your duplicated frame. It is no longer needed).

Step 9.

Select your magic wand. While holding down the shift button, select all four corners of your frame. (the triangles). Selection> modify> expand by 2.

Step 10.

Open the image you are using to fill your frame. Select a complimentary color from your image. Flood fill your corners with this color.

Step 11.

While still selected, go to effects> texture and apply the same straw wall as before, except change the color to a lighter color from your image.

Step 12.

With your magic wand, select the inside of the frame. Go to selections> modify> expand by 2. On the image you want to insert, go to edit> copy. Activate your frame. Edit> paste INTO selection. Layers merge visible.

You're done!
