This tutorial was written using JASC PSP version 7.04 and assumes you have a working knowledge of the program at an intermediate level. Let's Get Started! Tools needed for this tutorial are as follows. JASC PSP version 7. Download a 30 day trial version or purchase here. This zip file containing my Garden Flag Stake selection. Unzip it to your selections folder. A Image of choice. Step 1. Open a new image 300x450, transparent. Add a new layer by going to Layers> new raster layer. Step 2. Go to selections> load from disk and find tc_flagstake. Change your foreground to black and flood fill your selection.
Step 3. Go to effects> inner bevel and apply the "round" preset. Deselect.
Step 4. Notice the jaggies on the loops? I don't like that so let's clean that up a bit. Go to effects> blur> gaussin blur and type in .65. Now go to Colors> adjust> Highlight/Midtones/Shadows. Shadow 79, Midtones 67, Highlight 44, Linear Adj. CHECKED. Now go back to effects> blur> gaussin blur and type in .62. This should clean it up considerably. (Thanks Patao) Step 5. Open your graphic you want to use for the flag. Resize it to 173x259. Sharpen.
Step 6. Activate your flag image. Edit> copy. Activate your stake. Edit, paste as new layer. With your mover tool, move the image into place slightly above the top bar.
Step 7. With your magic wand, click anywhere on your canvas to select. Go to selections> invert. Your flag should be selected. Go to effects> inner bevel and add a "soft edge" bevel. Deselect.
Step 8. With your selection tool set to rectangle, select the top part of your flag to just below the bottom of the bar.
Step 9. Add a inner bevel with these settings. Deselect This makes it look like you've slid the flag onto the pole. Merge visible.
You're Done! Easy huh? Now you can tube your garden stake. I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, feel free to E-mail me anytime.
